Lawyer and documentary filmmaker Stacey DeWitt is the keynote speaker of the Lemke Journalism Project annual celebration on Saturday, April 19, on the University of Arkansas campus.

More than 50 high school students will be recognized for their work this year on reporting projects and media literacy training.

“Stacey shares our commitment to media literacy and is the perfect speaker to inspire our teens,’’ said Gina Holland Shelton, director of the program, known as LJP. “Many of the students want careers in storytelling, and Stacey is an expert in that field.”

DeWitt, co-founder of CWK Network, has produced more than 65 documentaries and has won more than 40 awards for her work as a producer and executive producer, including Emmy® Awards, Parents’ Choice Awards, AiMe, Telly, Prism and Associated Press Awards.

DeWitt has been a television anchor, producer and reporter for ABC, NBC and PBS affiliates.

She will also speak to several classes in the School of Journalism and Strategic Media on Thursday and Friday, including a session open to the public on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the UATV studio, second floor. Professor Larry Foley will lead a Q&A with DeWitt.

She will spend two hours with high school students Saturday, celebrating their accomplishments. A ceremony will include scholarship awards for students who will be pursuing journalism degrees at the University of Arkansas. Her visit is co-sponsored by the Lemke Journalism Project and the Center for Media Ethics and Literacy.
