Hilary Gamble holds a PhD in Mass Communication. Her research focuses on media effects and, more recently, the ethics of AI use in newsrooms. 

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11—Freelancing & Story Pitching with Lauryn Higgins, Kimpel 203

Lauryn Higgins is a two-time Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist awarded for her work on New York Times teams covering Covid-19 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

J.T. Geren worked in sports marketing for the University of Arkansas and University of Kansas. He is now director of communications for Heartland Forward.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25—International Advertising with Sam Pierce, Kimpel 202

After graduating from the U of A, Sam Pierce’s advertising career has taken him to Los Angeles, New York and now London. He has worked for Ogilvy for 17 years and will Zoom from London.

Ann Carrns has a weekly column in The New York Times called “Your Money Adviser.” She is an adjunct at SJSM this semester.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28—Equitable Media Literacies with Dr. Bobbie Foster, Kimpel 203, 10 a.m.

Dr. Bobbie Foster is a professor at SJSM. Her book, Equitable Media Literacies, will be published in December.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29—Community Journalism with Rachell Sanchez-Smith, Kimpel 203, 4:30 p.m.

Rachell Sanchez-Smith is a newsroom fellow at WBUR, Boston’s NPR affiliate. She is a 2024 graduate of the journalism school.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30—Impactful Media Projects with Lara Farrar, Kimpel 203, 3:30 p.m.

Lara Farrar is an award-winning investigative journalist with over 20 years of experience in national and international reporting.

Jonathon Modica is a vice president of human resources at Intuit. He has a journalism bachelor’s and master’s and a EdD from UARK.
